Grease Trap Solutions is a Locally owned and operated business operating out of the Bow Valley. Our mission is to provide an environmentally friendly solution to grease trap waste for our community. The business owner/operator Ken Craig grew up in his Family’s restaurant cleaning their grease trap (mainly when he misbehaved). June 2016 Ken started his A Plus Grease Trap Maintenance. Using his Family’s restaurant’s shop vac and buckets he got a taste of running a small business. Next Ken was introduced to Marc Heroux by an old high school friend. Ken and Marc soon struck a business deal and by January of 2017 Ken was the new proud owner of Heroux Maintenance. In November of 2017 proudly began hauling the FOG Waste water. Since then has happily hauled hundreds of thousands of Litres of FOG wastewater from restaurants in Banff, Canmore, and throughout the Bow Valley to be recycled or reused for methane gas (power) fertilizer and compost.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GET ANSWERS TO SOME COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS REGARDING GREASE TRAPS

Ensuring your grease trap is clean and working problem is of utmost importance for any business. Unfortunately most don’t know the frequency they should have theirs cleaned, or are unsure of the process. Which is why we’ve compiled a few commonly asked questions we get asked regarding grease trap maintenance, servicing, repair and everything between. Still have more questions? Get in touch with us and we can help provide any additional information you need.

  • What's a grease trap?

A grease trap is designed to minimize the amounts of solid waste and FOG waste (Fats, oils and grease) from getting down the drain lines. Most grease traps retain approximately 90-98% of the waste from getting into the attached drain lines if the grease trap is serviced on the correct basis.

  • How are grease traps cleaned?

We use a combination of portable vacuum units and our 300 Gallon Vacuum unit inside our discreet cube truck.

  • How often should my grease trap be cleaned?

We recommend servicing your grease trap firstly depending on your local bylaws. Most bylaws are written as to satisfy the CSA (Canadian Safety Standards) script on grease trap maintenance.

    Banff Bylaws
    Canmore Bylaws

  • Whats better polyurethane or metal traps?

My professional opinion is that polyurethane traps have a few advantages. Firstly, that the poly traps or parts don’t rust out, the gaskets last much longer and are a far superior design. Metal traps gaskets are held in by adhesive and in such humid environment tend to lose adhesion over time (sometimes not very long at all). Secondly better warranties on poly traps.

  • Does it smell during a servicing?

Yes, sadly it does. Much less with the use of our equipment. Our larger Vacuum the odor is exhausted at the truck and the portable unit has carbon filters built in to lessen the smell.

  • What time of day do you come in and clean the traps?

We are very flexible in terms of scheduling. Hours of servicing can affect the quote at our discretion.

  • I am having a backup at my sink, what could be causing it?

If your sink starts making gurgling noises or you are detecting a bit of a smell. It could be that your grease trap needs to be cleaned and or you have a blocked line.
